You can actually find most of this concert on youtube. I think I got to it by searching "Chick Corea Elektric Band 1987" IP: Logged |

i saw this tour back in 87. I remembered this very tune. I recalled thinking, man, I never heard the guitar sounds like this. Nobody could play like that. I also went and bought an Ibanez yellow Sabre, cool guitar but the body was so freakin' thin, could not balance the thing. IP: Logged |

[/B][/QUOTE] Well I get a kick out of it, even with a guy as great as Frank. However, I promptly followed up with a very legit 1994 performance of Another Alternative (just in case some people didn't like my (or the creator of that video's) sense of humor). I guess it's like walking back into the mosque and shouting "just kidding, god is in fact great." haha IP: Logged |

wow, that's definitely the most I've ever heard Ritenour chop out...although I only own his first few 70s CDs and the (sadly bland) Larry & Lee. Unfortunately to me, GRP records (Robben Ford aside) all seemed to suffer from Cheesy Synth syndrome...I guess it was the awkward teenager years for synth technology. I liked the naive honking, parpy sounds of early 70s synths (the kind of stuff you hear on Herbie Hancock or Lenny White records), but just can't stand all the glassy/cheesy sounds that came out of the 80s. Not knocking the musicians on the GRP clip though, obviously an impressive line-up. IP: Logged |

re. the first FG clip...for me the Ibanez FGM is still the ultimate Gambale guitar, it just screams 'fusion' (I know a lot of metal players use S guitars but it really doesn't look metal to me) - and yeah, the tone is great. A lot more sax-like than in recent times. IP: Logged |

quote: +1, totally agree. I discovered FG around this period. "a Present For The Future" was exactly that, nothing sounds like that before. He really did sound like a sax, tonewise and phrasing. Then I attended 2 of his clinics, both times the yellow Ibanez was the weapon of choice. The Boogie gear FG was running at the time really was good with that humbucker Sabre wood. I can't stand most of that GRP stuff. It gets way too 80s smooth jazz for my taste. IP: Logged |

http://www.youtube.com/frankgambaletv#p/a/u/0/R-9EQV9B0FQ Have you guys seen&heard this one? If not, do yourselves a favor. I think this is a fresh addition on FGTV. Frank and his Passages-era band are playing some of all time frighteningest fusion ever heard by me. And there´s that golden Ibanez/Boogie blossoming out again. I just enjoy it speeclessly... well, it's not quite the FGM, but those who want a brand new screaming yellow Sabre-style guitar are in luck: http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/news/article.asp?id=119672 IP: Logged |

I'm not sure about the yellow one. I means Frank's is cool, because he put a design on it that is his own. Thankfully I have a purple metal flake sabre and a copper colored sabre. Love those guitars! IP: Logged |

Why would you want to grab one if you dislike it ? Starting a Who tribute band ? IP: Logged |

mostly because it's a part of rock/shred history...it's a "must have" in some way I used to play Ibanez(es) for many years in my teens and the reason that i stopped it was the thin necks and floyds IP: Logged |
